PHUKET, THAILAND – Thanyapura Health & Sports Resort is organising Phuket’s most successful and long-running trail run on 3 September 2017. The course runs through the adventurous and majestic Khao Phra Thaeo National Park with three distances for beginners and experienced runners: the 4-km fun run, the 8-km and the challenging 15-km trail run along steep and hilly terrain. The lush jungle route provides an excellent backdrop to observe pure nature and beautiful waterfalls while runners test their endurance on rough paths and high climbs up the grand mountain.
Khao Phra Thaeo is a national park in Northern Phuket, known for its evergreen forest. Roughly 23 square kilometres in size, it was awarded royal status from His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The mountain’s highest point stands at 442 meters.
The first edition of the trail started in 2015 with 200 participants and continued to grow to over 600 runners in its second year, with the debut of the 15-km course. The trail run has cemented its reputation as one of the most popular events for experienced and amateur runners from all over the world.
The race starts at Thanyapura’s Gate 3, in front of the hotel at 7:00 am. The runners begin their run along the road flanked by gorgeous trees for the first two kilometres before traversing through Khao Phra Thaeo National Park, where they come across Tonsai Waterfall.
The first place male and female finishers of the 15-km receive THB 5,000 each, a trophy and medal for their achievements. The top three male and female finishers of each distance are awarded trophies while all race finishers walk away with a medal.
The registration fees are: THB 450 for the 4-km, THB 550 for the 8-km and THB 650 for the 15-km. Registrations are currently open and end on 27 August 2017. To sign up online, please visit thanyapura.com/events. Runners can also register via Club Services at Thanyapura. Participants who sign up for both King of the Mountain Trail Run and the Thanyapura Mountain Bike Classic receive a THB 100 discount.
On the same day, the inaugural Thanyapura Mountain Bike Classic follows the trail run at 11:00 am, a brand-new mountain bike competition through Khao Phra Thaeo National Park.
